1,759 Yobe residents affected by cholera in 2018′

Cholera outbreak: 175 dead, over 10 000 affected in Nigeria
Nine new suspected cases of cholera have been reported for in Yobe
State, bringing the total reported cases of the diseases in 2018 to 1,759. The nine new cases were accounted for on November 6 in Damaturu and Gulani. The revelation was made on Thursday by Dr Collins Owili, the Emergency Manager, World Health Organization, with the Maiduguri office. Owlli told journalist that of the reported cases, 61 people were lost; showing case casualty fatality ration (CFR) of 3.47 percent. He disclosed, “In the state, 576 cases have been reported for in Gulani LGA, 485 cases in Gujba LGA and 450 cases in Damaturu LGA. In Fune LGA, 181 cases were reported for and 67 cases were reported in Potiskum LGA. Out of 97 tested using and cholera RDTs, 82 (84.5%) were positive and 15 (15%) were negative.
“Once more, nine (47%) out of 19 tests refined were sure for Vibrio Cholera. In any case, the nine positive examples were taken to national reference laboratory quality checks and further examination and Vibrio Cholera O1 (Inaba) serotype was isolation in four out of the nine samples,” Collins said.
