A group, known as Community Based Health Insurance, has engaged Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State to give consent to the Akwa Ibom Health Insurance Agency Bill which was passed into law by the state House of Assembly last June.

The chairman, leading the group of trustees of the association, Mr Michael Akpabio, made the appeal during a briefing held in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Scheme as a major aspect of activities marking the 2018 Universal Health Coverage Day, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 11.

Akpabio said the governor’s consent to the bill would engender the activities of the organization and ensure compulsory health coverage for the entire state, capturing both formal and informal sectors.

He stated, “Universal health Coverage is a political decision which strives for equity and justice in Health. We commend Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly for considering and passing into law the Akwa Ibom Health Insurance Agency bill.

“We call on Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, the executive governor of Akwa Ibom state to give his assent to the Bill——“.

“World leaders have agreed that each individual regardless of their identity, where they live, or the amount they have ought to have the access to quality health services without suffering financial hardship.

“To accomplish this vision of Universal Health Coverage by 2030, there is the need to galvanize collective action now to create a solid and equitable health system in the states.
