HIV/AIDS: Taraba Surveys 7416 Persons

The Nigeria Aids Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS) has successfully gathered information from 90 enumeration areas involving about 7416 people in Taraba State.

This was unveiled by the director general of the Taraba State Aids Control Agency (TACA), Abba Sale Ibrahim on Monday during a press briefing to commemorate the World Aids Day.

The TACA manager also revealed that he was certain the NARHS as presently being undertaken would favor the state, considering the fact that the last survey put the state above the national average.

“Nigeria AIDS Reproductive Health Survey (NARHS) 2012 puts Taraba State HIV prevalence at 10.5%, this is over the national average… another HIV survey is currently progressing in the nation. This survey is the biggest HIV ever done in the world because of the sample size. It has a sample size of more than 88,000 enumeration areas and about 200,000 households”, he expressed.

He added that the World AIDS Day will concentrate more on HIV testing services across the 16 LGAs of the state and appealled to the people of Taraba State in respective t of gender, age, social standing and occupation to avail themselves of the HIV Counseling and Testing (HCT) in all the health facilities and other designated places over the state free of charge.

Ibrahim also commended the administration for its contribution to the battle against the pandemic.
