Obaseki establishes 7 HIV/AIDS testing centers in Benin

As part of efforts to sustain awareness, prevention and reduce the spread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS), Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has intensified awareness on the ailment and also set up seven centers in Benin, South-south Nigeria where residents can check their HIV status and get counselling services.

Addressing writers at the end of a Stakeholders’ Scoreguiding intuitivegathering meeting held in Benin City, Executive Director, Edo State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (EDOSACA), Mrs. Greenery Oyakhilome, said the facilities are situated at Santana Market, Ramart Park, New Benin, Evbuotubu, Oluku, Ekiosa and Ring Road.

According to Oyakhilome “This is a striking experience for us in the agency as we are testing individuals and the individuals who turn out positive are counseled and connected to care. This is the first time we are embarking on an event like this and the incredible achievement of the exercise is attributed to the state government.”
