The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) has donated essential medicines worth GH¢ 254,730 to the Central Medical Stores (CMS) mitigate the effect of the fire outbreak that occurred at the Central Medical Stores in Tema on January 13, 2015.
Presenting the cheque at a ceremony in Accra on Tuesday, the president of PSGH, Mr James Ohemeng Kyei, said the mission of pharmacists was to provide sustainable, affordable, accessible and humane quality pharmaceutical services to all citizens. Mr Kyei explained that aside the first donation that was made by five companies on February 2, 2015, nine other pharmaceuticals companies which formed the second batch had also made a similar donation earlier..
Among the pharmaceutical companies that made the donations were M&G Pharmaceutical Ltd, Osons Chemist Ltd, Kama Health Services Ltd, Lymens Medical Supplies, Unicom Chemist Ltd, Amponsah-Efah Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Pharmanova Ltd, Lagray Chemical Company and Pyto-Riker Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
He said PSGH was yet to present a proposal to the Ministry of Health for consideration to raise GHC 50,000,000 to support the Ministry in restocking CMS in addition to th GHC e 25,000,000 that government had provided to add up to get the GHC 75,000,000 that was needed to restock the warehouse.
The Minister for Health, Alex Segbefia, who received the items on behalf of the Ministry, expressed appreciation to PSGH for their gesture and urged other companies to emulate the example of PSGH in helping to restock CMS as well as in providing quality health care delivery in Ghana.
