Three killed as Hong Kong school bus traps passers-by
Three individuals were killed when an empty runaway school bus mounted a pavement in a crowded Hong Kong neighborhood on Monday, trapping passers-by underneath and injuring 11, police said.

According to the Police, two ladies —aged 80 and 70 — and an 83-year-elderly person were killed in the downtown North Point locale. The vehicle rolled down the street after it was parked, terrifying passers-by as the driver ran towards it and tried in vain to stop it, according to the police.

“We believe he might have forgotten pull the handbrake or had not properly pulled it,” chief inspector of police Sun Lun-yum told journalists.

The 62-year-old driver became trapped under the bus and was dragged along for about 20 meters before falling onto the road.

Police said the bus travelled for a total of 100 meters, hitting two cabs before finally colliding in to a building in a narrow lane with shops.

In addition, the driver, who suffered injuries to his head, neck and back, 10 other pedestrians between the ages of 22 and 89 were taken to hospital for treatment.

Hong Kong prides itself on having one of the world’s best public transport system but deadly bus accident is not unknown.
