California health officials are investigating a bacteria outbreak after at least 93 people were sickened; individuals started to report symptoms including fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea, health officials said.

Currently, at least 24 of those sickened have been diagnosed with Shigella according to health department. The bacteria Shingella can cause an infection called Shigellosis, and symptoms usually appear 1-2 days after a person has been exposed to the bacteria according to the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The disease is highly infectious and it takes consumption of very little bacteria to make people sick.
