Association advocates streamlining of the referral system in Nigeria’s’ Health Sector.
The Chairman, Lagos Chapter of the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners, Dr. Adeyeye Arigbabuwo, has called for streamlining to referral system in Nigeria health sector, saying that a well structured referral system would discourage the treatment of minor ailments at the National Teaching hospital.
Arigbabuwo also said the primary health facilities should handle cases such as malaria infection’’ situation where a malaria patient just walks straight into a teaching hospital for treatment and person is welcome is not ideal’’ He stressed the need to tackle the challenges facing the primary healthcare centers which include lack of health workers at the grassroots, saying that only mass distribution of human resources among the primary health facilities would enable these centers to perform their ascribed role in healthcare delivery.
