Gombe to Immunize Over 900,000 Children against Polio.
The Gombe State Government says it will immunise 900,000 children against polio, in an emergency response after two new cases were confirmed in neighbouring Borno State.
The state’s Primary Health Care Development Agency said it had concluded arrangements for the expansive programme. The Executive Secretary of the Agency, Ahmed Gana, disclosed this while speaking to the pressmen in Gombe. He said the government targets over 900,000 children. He said in the course of the sensitization programme, staff will pay special attention to Internally Displaced Persons and the bounder areas. “With the influx of people from neighbouring states into Gombe state as a result of the insurgency, we need to take precautionary measures,” he said. The secretary expressed satisfaction with the quantity of vaccine supplied to the agency by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency. Mr. Gana said the case reported in Jere LGA of Borno State involved a child who had arrived at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp from Maiduguri (Muna camp in Jere LGA), after trekking for two days following the provision of an escape corridor by the military.
