1. Tobacco can cause cancers of the lung, mouth and others
Cigarette, cigar and pipe smoking increase the risk of lung, laryngeal and mouth cancers. Seventy five (75) percent of lung and laryngeal cancers are due to tobacco while sixty six (66) percent are due to tobacco chewing.
Research claims active smokers have twenty (20) times more risk than non-smokers while passive smokers (those who do not smoke but breathe in the smoke) have about of two (2) times more risk than non-smokers.
The effect of smoking is related to duration of smoking, number of sticks a day and amount of smoke taken in.
2. Alcohol abuse can cause liver cirrhosis
Alcohol when consumed in large volume and for long damages the liver directly and indirectly by encouraging the release of certain chemical agents which cause damage to the liver. The Liver becomes chronically inflamed. Cirrhosis occurs after about ten years of heavy consumption of alcohol. It leads to cancer and liver failure.
3. Every child under five years should be taken to a hospital if sick.
Most infections of Polio in children pass on un-noticed. Occasionally, there may be slight fever, and a feeling of being unwell. Every child under five (5) years should be taken to a hospital to see a doctor if sick.
Simple operations or injection can trigger a paralysis if the child already has the infection. Do
not take the child to a chemist, or to an unqualified healthcare personnel, wrong treatment
could be tragic.

7. Vaccination can save your child from measles
You can help save your child from the infection by feeding him well, practicing personal hygiene and by vaccination.
Vaccination against measles is usually at 9 (nine) months of age. During epidemics, it could be given at 6 (six) months. This single injection gives life-long protection against measles to the child.
