India’s National Aids Control Organization (NACO) says at least 2,234 Indians have contracted the deadly HIV virus from receiving blood transfusion in hospitals in the past 17 months alone.
The information activist, Mr. Chetan Kothari also disclosed that India has around 2.09 million people living with HIV/AIDS and that the highest number of patients who had been infected with HIV as a result of contaminated blood in the hospitals was from the Northern State of Utter Pradesh with 361 cases.
