Kaduna to Re-Engage 800 Retired Nurses
Kaduna State government has disclosed its plan to re-engage 800 retired nurses and midwives to help reduce maternal deaths and to boost healthcare service delivery at Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Paul Dogo disclosed this during a breakfast meeting on Contraceptive Technical Updates, CTUs for Policy makers organized by Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative NURHI in Kaduna. The decision to re-engage the retired nurses he said is part of efforts by the State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai to make health care accessible to people at the grassroots, noting that the state has embarked on renovation, equipping and staffing of one Primary Health Care Centre per ward in the state.”We did our gap analysis and its outcome shows that we will need up to 800 nurses and midwives. So far, we have been able to get more than 300 names and we are getting more,” he explained, while he assured that the state is working towards creating a budget line for family planning.
