The National Agency for Control of AIDS (NACA) has taken Nigerian Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PREP) demonstration study which is being conducted in partnership with Bill and Melinga Foundation to Cross-River state; this is part of effort to checkmate the spread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) to uninfected persons particularly couples in sexual relationship.
The PREP Coordinator in the state, Dr. Promise Adat, in her presentation at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) said that PREP is a deliberate effort to prevent uninfected persons or partners who is at risk of getting HIV from getting infected and is determined to include PREP in the Nation’s HIV prevention programme.
