2. Nigeria has no Breast milk bank, says Afribaby Initiative.
As part of activities to commemorate the 2016 World Breast Feeding week from 1-8 August, which held at the Lagos state University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH),
Ikeja, with the theme Breastfeeding;’’ A key to sustainable Development’’ A non- governmental organization, Afribaby Initiative, said that Nigeria with a population of 180 million people are fighting maternal and infant mortality rates of 100 deaths per 4,000 birth in 2003 and 800 deaths per 100,000 lives birth in 2000 respectively, has no breast milk ban, and it is however in line with this, thast the NGO, plans building the Nigeria’s First breast milk bank in partnership with humanitarian organization, healthcare institutions, medical professional as well as individuals.
The President/Founder of the NGO, Dr. Oscar Odiboh says ‘’ the bank will collect, screen, process and dispense by prescription human milk donation by nursing mother who are not biologically related to the recipient infant, and also the milk bank will be beneficial to victim of maternal mortality , physically challenged babies, abandoned babies aged 0—6month recued babies.
