As part of activities to mark this year’s World Health Day, today April 7, 2016 The Rainbow Specialist Medical Centre, Lekki, Lagos, South west Nigeria is conducting a free Diabetes foot screening exercise and Diabetes foot care education for persons living with the disease from 12-3pm at the hospital’s premises.
Diabetes Mellitus foot syndrome is one of the serious complications of Diabetes in the country.
In the related development, the World Health Organization has said that the world is facing an “unrelenting march” of Diabetes which now affects one in 11 adults.
They said the number of those affected would continue to increase unless drastic action is taken.
Diabetes is a silent killer, if not controlled, has devastating health consequence, such as heart attack and possible leg amputation, stroke, kidney failure, blindness and complications in pregnancy.
Diabetes is the eighth biggest killer in the world and accounts for 1.5 million deaths each year.
