A recent report on a study conducted in 54 countries around the world has shown that those who sit more than three hours a day risk dying earlier by 3.8 percent than those who sit less. The study also found that sitting less tha three hours a day increased life expectancy by about 0,2 years and this increases with the less number of sitting hours.
The effect also varies from geographical region to geographical region; effect on mortality rate is highest in the West Pacific Region, followed by Europe, East Mediterranean, Americas, and Southeast Asia.
The report was published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
