It has been reported that 91,534 Nigerians are infected with Tuberculosis annually, but sadly several cases remain unreported, thereby making it difficult for the disease to be eradicated.
There are over 6000 healthcare facilities across the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria providing Tuberculosis services including Faith based,Tertiary,Secondary as well as primary healthcare centers.
The disease which affects the lungs can develop to a level of drug resistant Tuberculosis which takes 20 months for drug intake and 8 months of daily injections.
However,Research is ongoing to reduce the drug intake to a lesser period foe effective treatment.
24th of March is World’s Tuberculosis day.
About 80,000 deaths are recorded annually.
