The United States Centre for Disease Control and prevention has advised US pregnant women against travelling to Cape Verde, El-Salvador, Guyana, Mexico, Brazil, Martinique, Bolivia, Ecuador, Barbados, Island of Saint Martin, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Honduras, Haiti, Samoa, French Guiana, Venezuela, Paraguay, Surinam, Colombia and Panama because of the current out break of Zika virus infection in Brazil.
The Zika virus outbreak has been in Brazil since October 2015 and has affected over 4000 babies. The infection itself is usually mild if symptomatic; by mild fever, aches and maybe a rash but it is the effect on pregnancy that is devastating. The children of such pregnancies usually have small heads which off course affects development.
