About 200 million Naira worth of anti- malaria drugs donated by the Chinese government are said to be wasting away at the Murtala Mohammed International airport, Ikeja , Lagos, South west Nigeria due to non-payment of duty. The duty was about N3,000,000.00 when the drugs arrived the country last year February but has now increased to N25,000,000.00 owing to demurrage.

The average life of drugs is about three years; in order words, they have less than two years to expiration.

Malaria accounts for about 60 percent of clinic attendance and it is therefore ridiculous for charge duty for donated drugs.
