During the association’s executives visit in his office in Abuja, The Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has called on the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association to intensify vaccines production to curb Avian Influenza and other animal diseases in the country, and for the government to achieve a sustainable food security, more funding was required to support commercial vaccine product, adding that: “For us to achieve the objective, we need more funding. If the Veterinary Council of Nigeria and your association intensify efforts in vaccines production, we will be able to control or combat the spread of Avian Influenza and other deadly diseases.”

94,000 pregnant women HIV positive in Zamfara – NGO

At the end of a seven-year treatment and support rolling plan for those living with HIV in the state in Gusau on Thursday, The team leader of the organization, Mr Aminu Sarki, said No fewer than 94,141 pregnant women are  HIV/AIDS positive in Zamfara, and  A United States Agency for International Aids (USAID) funded programme said this through Management Services for Health Organisation the USAID Prevention and Organizational Systems-AIDS Care and Treatment (PRO-ACT), and more than 500 women living with HIV received anti-retroviral drugs in the state during the period. He said 4,436 persons living with HIV in the state were cared for by his organization explaining that the project was aimed at strengthening the capacity of the country’s public, private and community sectors for sustainable HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis prevention, control, care and treatment within the health system.

NGO Advocates HIV Test before Marriage

Speaking at the opening of a two-day training on sensitizing pregnant women against infecting their babies with HIV virus, An NGO Royal Impact Health Care Society has advocated for HIV test by couples before marriage in Kebbi State, Dr. Kola Oduola said that both male and female should be subjected to test before marriage because of HIV cases established in many communities across the state.
According to Oduola, the NGO in collaboration with the State Action Control on Aids (SACA), has embarked on massive sensitization of the traditional and opinion leaders in the society to encourage their pregnant women to visit hospital for routine medical check and test on the HIV. According to him, the aim of the sensitization was to prevent transmission of the virus to the children.

A consultant paediatrician, of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Dr George Emechebe, on Thursday called on residents of Anambra to beware of paedophiles in their communities, and that the call was necessitated by the increase in paedophilia in the state, adding that Paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult experiences exclusive sexual attraction to children or has a carnal knowledge of children. The person who commits the act is called a paedophile and could be either a male or a female, and  he treated no fewer than two paedophile cases every month.
