The Deputy Director, Distance learning institute (DLI) Prof. Oyesoji Aremu has frowned at the increase in the number of years for training of Medical students to 11 years as being too expensive and discouraging. He continued that this might lead to a dearth of Medical personnel in the country. The same reaction came from Deputy Vice chancellor, University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Bank-Obi.

She noted that students should be given opportunity to graduate in the first phase and continue after their first degree to read Medicine.
