Daily intake of pre-exposure pills can prevent HIV infection; a new study has confirmed. The drug Truvada, was given to high risk adults such as homosexuals and bisexuals who continued with their life style for about one year.
557 uninfected persons started the study but the number dropped to 437 on completion at the end of one year. They continued to have unprotected sex; only two got the infection during the study apparently due to discontinuance.
Since there is still no vaccine against HIV, this pre-exposure prophylaxis may the way out for now.
