The Ghana National Petroleum Cooperation (GNPC) has given a cheque of $4.5 million to the Sickle Cell Foundation of Ghana towards the construction of a Centre of Excellence for Sickle cell treatment and research at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Ghana.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), it is estimated that 15,000 babies are born every year in Ghana with Sickle Cell Disease and almost 50 percent of them die before the age of five years.
