The World Health Organisation has said that about 4 billion people under 50 years have a form of sexually transmitted disease called Herpes Simples. There are two types of Herpes Simplex Virus; HPV 1 and HPV 2, the latter is more dangerous.
90 percent have the type 1 infection.
Of the 4 billion people, about 90 percent have the type I herpes infection.
HPV 1 causes cold sores around the mouth and is spread mostly by skin to skin contact with an infected person or contact with a contaminated article. Occassionally, it can spread to the genitals though oral sex resulting in genital cold sores. Most the HPV 1 infections are mild and treatable but not curable, it can in few situations spread to the brain.

HPV 2 ( Herpes genitalis) is transmitted sexually through vaginal, oral or anal sex but affects fewer people globally; about 420 million persons globally.

Both types of infection are less common in high-income societies due to better hygiene.
