Global Hunger Index: India ranks 97 out of 118 countries; 15% of country’s population undernourished
A new report on hunger found that one in three children in India has stunted growth, whereas 15% of the country’s population is undernourished.

The 2016 Global Hunger Index (GHI) that was released on Tuesday said 38.7% of Indian children under five years are stunted due to lack of food. The report by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), also ranked India 97 among 118 countries, faring worse than all its neighbours China (29), Nepal (72), Myanmar (75), Sri Lanka (84) and Bangladesh (90), except for Pakistan (107) in measures of hunger.  …

In a communiqué issued at the end of its 52nd Annual Scientific Conference and workshop which took place in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital, The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN has raised con­cern over what it described as the indiscriminate use of public offices by some Chief Executive Officers of both federal and state health fa­cilities to oppress and sup­press other health profes­sionals in Nigeria. The communiqué was signed by its National President, Toyosi Y Raheem; Secre­tary, Dr Surajudeen Jun­aid and Public Rela­tions Officer, Tam Adeyeye.

Jigawa Assembly passes by law on HIV test before marriage.

During yesterday plenary, Chairman of the Committee on the Control of HIV/AIDS, Ibrahim Suleman Gwiwa has said that the Jigawa State House of Assembly has passed a bill which makes it compulsory for all intending couples to undergo test for HIV/AIDs, twice, in the last three months before marriage is contracted, adding that the bill intends to provide free and compulsory HIV/AID test before marriage as well prohibit all forms of discrimination and stigmatization against people living with virus.
Gwiwa also said that the bill became necessary because the disease was spreading in the state through marriages contracted without HIV tests, between prospective couple.

The  Executive governor of Nasarawa state, Umaru Tanko Almakura has lauded the Cuban Government for its firm stand on health related issues and expressed the readiness of Nasarawa State to partner Cuba in the areas of healthcare and agriculture.

Governor Almakura made this known when he received the Cuban Ambassador Carlos Trejo-Sosa who was in the state for a courtesy visit and discussions on various issues at the Government House Lafia. Speaking on the healthcare collaboration the Governor stated it would have a more positive approach if a research and diagnostic laboratory is set up in Nasarawa State, saying that such an effort would go a long way in stemming the tide of Lassa fever among other diseases.

The Chief Medical Di­rector (CMD) of Dal­hatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, Dr Yakubu Ashuku, has said that in or­der to ensure that precious lives are not wasted; there is the need for health facilities to give urgent attention to ac­cident victims. He, however, disclosed that part of the services which is offered at no cost in his Spe­cialist Hospital was the free treatment of multiple acci­dent victims whose rela­tions cannot be immediate­ly reached.

According to him, since the suspension of the strike recently embarked upon by medical doctors in Nasara­wa State, all health services in the hospital have been go­ing on without any hitch as all departments in the hospital have continued to put in their best in ensuring that medical services are delivered on time and in the general interest of the patients.
