In a lecture titled, ‘Development of Medical Education: Prospects and Challenges’, delivered at the Maiden matriculation and inauguration of the University of Medical Science Ondo, Ondo State, South west Nigeria, the Executive Secretary, Prof. Julius Okojie of the National University Commission (NUC) who was represented by the Deputy Executive secretary, Prof. Chiedu Mafiana, declared that any student who wants to study medicine will henceforth spend a minimum of 10 years in the university in order to enable them mature psychologically for the profession.
He further said that the 2015 document for the training of medical students made provision for student to spend the first four years in studying basic sciences in the University before proceeding to medical school to spend another seven years.
