The US retired football star, Mrs. Brandi Chastain, 47, has pledged to donate her brain to the Boston University which is leading studies on the effect of multiple concussions and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) – a degenerative disease associated with history of repetitive brain trauma, depression and progressive dementia.
Reports have also revealed that the disease has been found only in a number of male sports star including many former American footballers with no female athletes suffering from CTE; this
may be because the sample size is too small.
CTE can only be diagnosed on examination of the brain post-mortem
