According to OXFAM International, an NGO, about sixty three million Nigerians lack access to potable water, a recipe for water borne diseases such as Typhoid, Diarrhoeas, Dyentery, Cholera etc. This was stated by the Country director of the body, Mr. Constant Tchona while briefing newsmen on the NGO’s water interventions in communities and schools in Abuja recently.
He added that about 800 million people globally lack access to potable and about 35 million die globally every year from water related illnesses.
According to him about 1.5 million persons mostly women and children have to fetch water from far away streams/rivers daily for their homes but without recognition.
