A recent study has shown that Alzheimer’s disease, a form of dementia associated with old age has worse effects in women. The disease is characterized by memory loss, loss of cognitive abilities and poor co-ordination of movements.  Also women are affected more, in the United Kingdom,  about two thirds of those affected by dementia are women.

The study conducted at the University of Herdfordshire, UK posits that women are more affected due to the reduced level of oestrogen post menopausal and also because they are less engaged outside the home during their active yearsand so have less reserve of cognitive abilities.
