Speaking at a one-day stakeholders’ advocacy and sensitization dialogue of breastfeeding held in Calabar, Cross River State, the Special Adviser to the Governor of the State on Primary Health care, Dr. Betta Edu, urged nursing mothers in the country to begin exclusive breastfeeding for their new-born babies up to two years as this goes a long way to fortifying babies immune system.
She also said that exclusive breastfeeding helps to build a child’s sensory, cognitive abilities, enhance bonding as well as help to guard against some infectious diseases.
While addressing the issue, a non- governmental organization, Expanded Social Marketing Project in Nigeria (ESPMIN) also advocated for establishment of crèche at work places nationwide in order to encourage exclusive breastfeeding.
